Change txt on start button

Step 1 - Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For purposes of this article I have used Resource Hacker. Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

get this from h**p://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip

The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe.

The category we are going to be using is "String Table". Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to and expand string 37 followed by highlighting 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the stringtable. We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.

There is no magic here. Just double click on the word “start” so that it’s highlighted, making sure the quotation marks are not part of the highlight. They need to remain in place, surrounding the new text that you’ll type. Go ahead and type your new entry. In my case I used Click Me!

You’ll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out is now active. I won’t get into what’s involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it’s going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the Save As command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save command – Make sure to use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.

Step 2 – Modify the Registry

!!!make a backup of your registry before making changes!!!

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it’s necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don’t know how to access the registry I’m not sure this article is for you, but just in case it’s a temporary memory lapse, go to Start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the Open field. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In the right pane, double click the "Shell" entry to open the Edit String dialog box. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, or reboot the entire system if that’s your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text.[/b]

How Microsoft see our digital future

Some visionaries over at Microsoft Labs have put a lot of hard work and devotion to a video displaying our digital world in 2019. Heavily relying on touch and constant interconnectivity, our digital future looks quite promising - especially to geeks like us.

In 2019 smart office and household devices cater for our needs in the most intuitive way possible. Mobile phones for one, have seen quite a few changes.

We've compiled the following screenshots as a quick how-to for using your phone in 2019.

First off, check your upcoming appointments. Then call the person you are seeing next to confirm the meeting. Video calling is preferred and remember to keep good eye contact. Next call a taxi - use voice dial or punch in the number using the touchscreen dial pad. Simple as that. Leave the rest to the taxi driver and enjoy the flashback of having your morning coffee in a big white computerized cup.

At what point does a handset make the jump from being a phone with a camera attached, to being a camera with a phone attached? Se-nse has managed to get the scoop on Sony Ericsson’s C905, which certainly toes that line.

Sony Ericsson’s packing just about every feature you’d expect from a standalone point-and-shoot into this phone - it’s got an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, face recognition, image and video stabilization, red eye reduction, Xenon flash, aGPS, Geotagging, WiFi, and DLNA support. It’ll come in Copper Gold, Ice Silver, and Night Black when it’s released in Q4 of this year. At 104×49x19.5 mm and 136 grams, it’s not exactly a super-model phone - but hey, if it manages to be a reasonable alternative to carrying around a seperate camera, we can excuse a bit of bulk.

Now, it’s important to note that a higher megapixel count does not mean it’ll take better pictures. However, previous Cybershot phones we’ve played with take photos that are far beyond the average camera phone. Sony Ericsson is expected to announce this on June 17th. They have media events scheduled in both Amsterdam and Singapore that afternoon, and we’ll be at the latter - hopefully we’ll be able to get some hands on time while we’re there.

FIX:Drive opens in new window on double click in windows XP

Why drive opens in new window?

It happens when a program or virus tries to edit the File Folder or Drive shell entries to add more context menu items and set them as default for double click action.

Lets see how we can fix this.

Fix:

First Method:

1. Open Start >> Run and type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

2. press ok

3. You will see a message DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shell32.dll succeeded

4. that’s it

Second Method:

1. Open Start >> Run and type regedit

2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Directory/Shell

3. Double click the default key type none and press ok.

4. now navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Drive/Shell.

5. Double click the default key type none and press ok.

Third Method:

If you don’t want to play with the registry ,you can run the following command instead at

Run Prompt: ( Open Start >> Run )

reg add hkcr\drive\shell /ve /d none /f” (without double quotes)

We hope at least one of the above method may work for you to fix the trouble, if not please let us know.

Note: If still after following the above you are not able to solve the problem then update your antivirus and run a complete scan and make your system virus free.

How to Hide the drives in My Computer

1.Go to start->run.Type regedit.Now go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives(it is case sensitive). Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) .Now restart your computer. So, now when you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown(all gone...). To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item that you created.Again restart your computer. You can now see all the drives again.
